Bollywood Dance Classes in Delhi

Updated on Dec 12, 2014

Delhi Dance Academy conducts regular Bollywood Dance classes in Delhi and Gurgaon. Students can join the classes to learn Bollywood Dance as a popular dance form, to be able to perform on different Bollywood songs or just as a general fitness routine in it’s fitness version that we call BollySweat. Bollywood at DDA is taught in the following formats: Bollywood freestyle, Bollywood + Hip Hop and Bollywood + Classical. Bollywood continues to be our best-selling dance class format where guys and girls learn choreography from some of Delhi’s top choreographers on latest Bollywood blockbuster songs. All students then get a chance to perform at various events and our yearly show called AVAJARRED (click for schedule) and become confident dancers. Bollywood dance classes at Delhi Dance Academy include Bhangra and a little bit of folk and sometimes also a little bit of hip hop as that is what Bollywood dance is – a mix of various Indian and western dance forms!

What is Bollywood dance?

Bollywood dance doesn’t have a proper definition. It can be best described as a fusion of various Indian dance forms with western styles usually performed to lyrics – what you typically see Shah Rukh Khan, Hritik Roshan, Shahid Kapoor or Kareena Kapoor doing in movies these days. Recently there have been divisions within Bollywood dance where you have item song dance, which has a faster pace, and usually more traditional moves on a fast western beat. In Delhi, there are various institutes that teach Bollywood dance. At Delhi Dance Academy, we don’t have courses on Bollywood dance, instead it’s like an enjoyable and fun exercise where our highly talented choreographers teach you steps on different songs and when you learn them and do them as a group, you enjoy it.

If you’re not confident about dancing in public, say in weddings or in night clubs or if you run out of moves, then three months of Bollywood dance training at DDA will do you good. Bollywood is quite a fast paced dance form, which means you stay fit and your body becomes flexibile. It’s not as good as Zumba or Aerobics for losing weight, but regular Bollywood dance will definitely help you remain fit. More importantly this form of dance gives you that real inner happiness that comes from dancing on your favourite Hindi songs. :) You’re welcome to visit our studios, take a trial class for Rs 300 and then decide if you want to join. If you join, then the trial fee of Rs 300 will be adjusted with your monthly fee of Rs 2000, so you’ll pay Rs 1700 more.

  • Hi
I am Neha, my husband and I want to learn couples’ dancing, not any dance form specifically but free style Bollywood.
Please tell me if you have any classes for the same: timings and fee structure.

    • Neha, Salsa is brilliant for couples. 2 people can dance in partnership like in no other dance form. However, if you prefer doing Bollywood, then please know that you will be dancing as individuals, not as a couple.
Bollywood dancing is a lot of fun! Rs 2000 per month per person. You can both come for a trial class, pay Rs 300, if you like it and you join, the 300 will get adjusted in your monthly fee.

  • Hi,

I’m getting married next weekend, and have a few guests arriving this week. I was looking for them to do a class in Bollywood Dancing, just as a fun activity. I was hoping to get a class on the 7th of December, sometime in the morning. There are 16 people, total beginners, never danced, which is why I think this might be a fun activity for them to try out. Please let me know if you can accommodate them on Friday morning. Thanks

    • Dear Ramit, we do such workshops for foreigners visiting India. It’s a 2 hour session where we brief them about the history of Belly dancing, Bollywood, Bhangra and Indian Folk dance (garbha, using dandiyas). Then we give 20 mins classes on each dance form covering 30 secs of a song. There is a 10 min break where we provide some refreshment and ultimately we make a 2 min video of everyone and burn it on a CD with a return gift. We do this for Rs 1000 per person. This is a pre-prepared workshop and we can deliver this for your guests. We can do Friday morning. Please text me on 9910222770 and I’ll call you asap if I can’t pick up because of our on-going classes. Regards, Arjun. You can also call Anant on 9953835088. :)

  • I’m 14 years old. Can i join the classes and is there any class in between 4 to 5? I mainly wish to join salsa classes, can I? or am I too young to learn salsa? I do not have any partner, what is the fee?

    • Hi Ainika, you can learn Salsa at DDA. Since you’re 14, you’ll just old enough to start. You don’t need a partner and the fee is Rs 2000 per month. You can also take a trial class for Rs 299. Does Saturday and Sunday from 3pm to 4:30pm work for you? Arjun 9910222770

  • hi i am ankur and am a working proffessional. In my technical fest i have to perform so i’d like to join classes. Could you please give me more information about ur timing ,fees and all that. thank you

    • Ankur, Bollywood – we have 7 ongoing batches which you can choose depending on your time preferences. Please call me on 9910222770. That would be a very quick way to give you all the information :) Arjun

  • I am brilliant at film related matters. I want to join Bollywood . How do I join bollywood ? Please tell me.

    • Ariyan, you will need to enroll yourself into a good acting school. For dance, you can join one of our Bollywood dance batches. This will give you exposure to film-type dancing.

  • Hello. I would like to learn bollywood dance. Is it possible for me to learn it in just december as i have my college since january and i will have to go back as i don’t study in Delhi.
please tell me if there is some class to learn it in just one month in december?

    • Hello Rachita, this is coming very late. Calling us is the quickest option. For the benefit of those who read this in the future – we don’t have any one month courses, I’m sorry. The minimum course duration is 3 months, unless there are some active workshops. Arjun

  • Hi this is Neha Sahai,I am getting married in a months time and I have my sangeet on 7th of November
,can I learn just one Bollywood dance number by then…plz help m in real mess.thanx

    • Neha, we will help you prepare the perfect number. Please call me on 9910222770 and book a time. Not a problem, don’t worry, you still have time :) Arjun

  • Hi ,
I would like to join your institute , I tried calling you on the given numbers but no luck.
    Please call me at ********402.

    • Hello Raman, apologies for the late reply. Could you please try calling us again, we have a very high rate of taking calls. I’m sorry we couldn’t pick up last time.

  • I have no idea how to move my body to make it less ridiculous. So in learning dance, I believe I have to start from zero. I live in Ras Vihar, the South Extension. Right now, what I have in mind would be taking Hip Hop dance. However, I need you to advice me which dance is suitable. Please find me a class that would match my zero knowledge, spare time during working hours, easy to access from my place, and taught in English. Anyway, about power yoga, how much is the course fee? Because I can’t find the fee on your web.

    • Dear Etta, thank you for writing to us. The fee for power yoga is Rs 2000 per month. If you’re just beginning, then the best form of dance to start would be Bollywood. Bollywood is a mix and match of western, Indian classical, Indian folk (like bhangra etc) and a little hip hop. It’s mostly about acting out whatever is being sung in the song, using your body. It’s fun, very energetic and requires no previous dance knowledge. We have 3 instructors who speak English and one who doesn’t. Please call me at 9910222770 and I’ll give you a list of available times when you can join. :) Regards Arjun

  • Hi

My daughter is 8 yrs old and wants to learn dance. I am interested in joining her your academy. Kindly provide your timing details, fees and any special provisions for kids dancing. Evening hours are preferable.

    Thanks & Regards
    Mukesh Dagar

    • Dear Mrs Dagar, we have 3 batches for kids – 2 during the weekdays (Monday to Friday) from 4-5pm and 5-6pm – Rs 1500 per month and one on the weekends (Sat and Sun) from 6-7pm – Rs 1200 per month. Children between the ages of 5 and 12 can join. Please call us to book a trial class for Rs 300 and bring your daughter any day. Best regards, Arjun

  • can my 3 yrs old daughter join ur classes

    • Hello Akanksha, the minimum age is 5 years I’m afraid. We have that as the lower limit because very young kids are not able to follow steps and have lower body-music co-ordination and are usually unable to dance in sync with other children. I’m very sorry that we can’t take the child right now but we look forward to having your daughter with DDA when she grows up a little :) .

  • Hi
i just want finishing or perfection in my dance steps and i am a hospitality girl so i am working at shahadra place if is there any academy of yours? Please let me know.
    Thank You

    • Hi Pooja, you can come to our Amar Colony center. We don’t have a center at Shahadara I’m afraid.

  • Do you have studios in America? I am Indian but moved to America and am now living there, and would like to dance but can not come to Delhi.

    • Hi Priyanka, we don’t have any studios in the US. I’m sure there are other academies there that teach Indian dance forms.

  • Hello,
My friends and I are coming to India next January and would like to book a private Bollywood dance class! My friends and I have been taking advanced Bollywood classes in Australia for the last 4 years and would like to experience doing a Bollywood dance class in India! It would probably have to be a night class! Could you please let me know if this is possible and how long/ how much it would cost!
    Thanks
    Jane

    • Hello Jane, Australian ladies in Delhi who’ve been taking advanced Bollywood dance classes – brilliant! :) We’d love to dance with you and do some Bollywood choreography.

Our prices are Rs 500 per person per hour. So say you guys want to take a 2 hour session, it’ll be Rs 1000 per person. In the 2 hours, we can do some Bollywood, some Belly and some Bhangra dance if you like. We have had groups of Australian guests in the past who’ve been very happy with our sessions. Here’s a pic : http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=524654687549592&l=1679ea1a56

I’d be very happy to fix a time once you land in India. We are usually available after 9pm, so 9pm to 11pm is always open and other times can be arranged. Please call me on +91 9910222770 once you’re here.

      See you,
      Arjun :)

I’m vikas from Chirag Delhi and I love bollywood & punjabi dance. May I learn both dance forms at the same time? If so, how much fees will I need to pay for both dance forms? Please tell me a suitable morning time before 10 am. Thanks.

    • Dear Vikas, thank you for getting in touch. We don’t do Bhangra batches, but you can join the 8-9 am Bollywood batch that runs 5 days a week on Mon, Tue, Thurs, Sat and Sun. The fee is Rs 2000 per month. Call us to book your place. Regards Arjun

Is It possible for me to learn dance now at this stage and how much would fees ?

  • Hello, may I know if there are any dance forms that you mix with bollywood? Something that we see in modern Bollywood movies, where they mix traditional bollywood with contemporary or hip hop and popping and locking? Thanks

    • Hello, we get lots of enquiries and some of them are from guys and girls who want to become actors and who want to learn a blend of dance forms (usually a mix of bollywood, hip hop, locking, popping and contemporary) as seen on TV or as performed by Hritik Roshan or Shahid Kapoor in some recent songs.

For exactly that demand, we have started a 9-10 pm batch where we have a couple of actors learning dance and a few others joining on Monday. This batch has just started and if 9pm to 10pm is suitable, then I recommend you join this batch asap.

      Best regards
      Arjun

Dance Away that Flab

Can't decide between the gym and dancing to lose that extra weight or to stay fit in general? Here's a list of dance forms taught at Delhi Dance Academy with the average calories burnt in 1 hour:

Zumba: 500-1000
Aerobics: 500-800
Jazz Contemporary: 400-600
Bharatnatyam: 400-600
Hip-Hop: 350-550
Belly dance: 250-450
Bollywood: 300
Salsa: 200-300

These numbers vary with your body weight and the amount of effort you put in.

How can I lose weight?
You lose weight when you consume or burn more calories than you take. Burning 3500 calories means you lose 1 lbs or 450 grams (almost half a Kilo) of weight.

In other words, if you cut 500 calories from your diet each day or burn 500 calories working out or dancing, you would lose 0.45 kgs in a week. :)

At Delhi Dance Academy we can also talk to you about your daily diet and recommend changes to help you lose weight.

Delhi Dance Academy has been featured on 24 x 7 News Channel as one of Delhi's best dance institutes. We have made recent appearances on TV Channels like BBC, Aajtak, E TV, NHK World, MTv and NDTV Goodtimes. We are among the top 50 activities to do while in Delhi by TripAdvisor with excellent reviews.
